So often when life serves up challenging experiences, it can feel like a guttural punch to the stomach, our reactions tend to be dissociation and distraction, disguised as doom scrolling and worst-case scenarios that play like a sports highlight reel. All in attempts to spare ourselves from the discomfort of the experience.
But what if we leaned into the discomfort? What if we turned off the spiraling thoughts and put down our phones?
So much of the suffering we experience stem from our resistance to the present moment. What if we could soften into the experience and embrace the discomfort as if it were an old friend?
It may not prevent the experience from occurring, but it will allow us to regain temporary control over how we show up and respond to it.
